The bamboo sheets are receiving lots of attention because of their varied properties. They are both eco-friendly and hypoallergenic, which is perfect for people that suffer from allergies. People also like them because they can be machine-washed on a downward setting without damaging the fibers. Before getting yours, however, here are some things you should know:

1. They may feel a little rough for the first few nights

Bamboo fiber is coarser compared to other synthetic fibers, which means that it will take some time to adjust to. Thus, you shouldn’t be surprised if it feels a little rough to you.

2. Bamboo bed sheets are a bit expensive

This is a disadvantage for some people, but then again it can be considered as something that is worth investing in. You have to keep in mind that while they are more expensive compared to other kinds of bedsheets, they also don’t require special care and can last longer than regular ones. Thus, their cost over the long run should add up to less than what you will spend on regular sheets.

3. They may be a little warmer than regular sheets

Since bamboo fiber retains the warmth, it may be a little warm for summer nights. Thus, it would be best to invest in bamboo sheets made from bamboo/cotton blends, which are more relaxed and still possess the same hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties.

4. They can pill after a few washes

Again, this is something you should expect from any kind of bedsheet and it’s not exclusive to bamboo fiber. However, you can always choose to purchase bamboo sheets that come with an anti-pilling treatment already applied to them. This way you don’t have to worry about them pilling because of over-washing or friction.

5. They may shrink slightly after washing

Since bamboo fiber is coarser than other fabrics, it’s best if you choose those that are pre-shrunk to avoid the problem of shrinkage. If you want to lessen this risk, then you can just wash your sheets on a gentle cycle instead of a normal one and avoid tumble drying them.

6. They can slide off the bed easily when not properly spread

As with other types of bed sheets, if you don’t spread them well you might wake up with them all on the floor. Wondering how to keep fitted sheets from coming off bed? Try tucking them in (under the mattress if they are big enough) or holding them down with stretchy bands. Safety pins work too, but are ultimately dangerous; they can easily come off and hurt you or your kids or pets.

Definitely, the consideration above points out several benefits and disadvantages of buying bamboo bed sheets. However, it’s ultimately your choice what to buy and what not to, as long as it is within your budget and fits all your requirements. Therefore, make sure to take everything into account before making such a decision.
